Sorg Innkallelse
Sorg Innkallelse are a Black Metal band from Tehran, Iran. They have quietly been producing high quality Black Metal since 2004, though the first time I crossed paths with their music was their seventh (!!) album, released by Estonian Hexenreich Records on CD-R format. It seemed like an interview was long overdue, it's about time their name was better known in Europe...

Arcana Noctis: Salam, Sorg Innkallelse! Please introduce yourselves to the readers of Arcana Noctis.

Sorg Innkallelse:
Salam! We are Sorg Innkallelse, the Black Metal band from Iran. Sorg Innkallelse was formed in winter of the year 2004 with two member Sadsoul (composer, guitars) and Murkmyth (vocals, bass) and up to now we have recorded seven albums.

Arcana Noctis: "Rise Of The Shadows" is your newest recording on Estonian label Hexenreich Records, how do you feel about this recording when comparing it to your earlier material?

Sorg Innkallelse:
Well, "Rise Of The Shadows" album was successful. We did our best for recording this album and comparing our earlier albums it's been recorded with high quality. Regarding our songs we have to say that always we've supported with our inner feelings and emotions and tried to make pure Black Metal with cold and sad situation but rebellious one. "Rise Of The Shadows" is a cold and pure Black Metal album.

Arcana Noctis: You have recorded six albums already, but they were not "officially" released by a label... Do you intend these to be re-released if possible or will some songs be re-recorded on future albums?

Sorg Innkallelse:
Unfortunately in Iran Black Metal is not permitted; so there is no record label and proper studio for producing Black Metal albums and we had no good record instrument for recording our previous ones and thats why they recorded with a low quality than latest album. Besides no external labels available and we distribute our albums in the form of underground. Maybe in the future we record again some tracks of previous albums with better quality.

Arcana Noctis: "Sorg Innkallelse"... It's meaning?

Sorg Innkallelse:
It means "Grief Summon". "Sorg Innkallelse" is a Norwegian/Swedish name. Our reason for choosing a Norwegian/Swedish name is not because of lack of interest in our history and mythology but there are a great deal of Metal bands in Iran which use Iranian and Persian names, but none of them truly play Metal and they have only its appearance and nowadays, in our opinion, lots of Black Metal bands have been formed all over the world which use English names and they are more interested in business and money-making rather than music. Finally we are so much interested in the Black Metal of 90s and before, which was produced in Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Norway etc.

Arcana Noctis: In my review of "Rise Of The Shadows" I wrote that I would never have guessed Sorg Innkallelse's country of origin, believing the sound to be purely Nordic. Upon closer listening however, I've noticed that the melody is using Persian scales and this does add to the feel of the music, though the sound is still very much Scandinavian Black Metal. Will we see an increased Persian influence in the sound and maybe some Persian lyrics?

Sorg Innkallelse:
There are some bands use the Persian lyrics and its OK but we are not sure about Sorg Innkallelse. In our opinion using English lyrics lets everybody in all over the world to understand the lyrics.

Arcana Noctis: You've done a video for the song "Incessant Winds Of Despair" with another Iranian band, Ekove Efrits. It's an excellent song with atmospheric visuals, as well as being an interesting idea. How do you feel about it? Will the track be featured on a release, maybe as a bonus on the next album or on an EP?

Sorg Innkallelse:
It was a great experience. Specially because never ever there has been a Black Metal band in Iran tried to do what we did. According to the limits and also lack of a proper place for producing this videoclip it was really hard but the results were satisfactory at the end. This song is added in the coming Sorg Innkallelse album as bonus track.

Arcana Noctis: The internet has revolutionized the music industry, not to mention home recording. The bad side to this is that many poor quality bands have sprung up and there is little or no quality control... The positive side is that Metal has reached almost every corner of the globe. What is your opinion on the world wide web, and how would Sorg Innkallelse survive without it?

Sorg Innkallelse:
In our point of view its positive side has been much more than negative ones. The poor quality band never been successful for longtime. In some countries there is no way for recording and distributing Metal albums so we think the computer and internet is the only way and if someday there is no possibility for us we have to move to another country.

Arcana Noctis: As for other bands from Iran I know Ekove Efrits, are there any others you can recommend? Do you think your country has a strong Metal scene despite the problems?

Sorg Innkallelse:
There are some Black Metal bands in Iran but none of them serious in their works but some bands in Doom, Death Metal or Thrash Metal are progressing. In Iran real Metal fans are few specially Black Metal ones and we can say Metal in Iran progress so slowly.

Arcana Noctis: Is ancient Persian history an influence? Do Iranians generally respect the way of their ancestors?

Sorg Innkallelse:
Yes, Iranians are really interested in their history and ancestors and pay too much respect to them.

Arcana Noctis: The foundation of humanity is the struggle between truth and lie. What is the greatest lie we face today and what is it's truth?

Sorg Innkallelse:
We think the greatest lie we face today in the world is humaneness. Everybody is trying to destroy everythings for him and humaneness is sacrificed.

Arcana Noctis: Persia has been a huge influence of modern day society; however this is not so well known in the west. Give the readers a hint of Persian influence on the world with a description of the following people and places:

- Cyrus the Great:

The promoter of human rights. The Iranian king people pay too much respect to him.

- The ancient cities of Persepolis and Pasargadae:
The signs of more than 2500 years of Iranian history and civilization.

- The prophet Zoroaster (Zarathustra):
Three main bases for living a good life: good thought, good saying and good act.

- The physician Avicenna:
The promoter of new medical science.

Arcana Noctis: That's all from me, thank you for the interview... Please finish by telling us what the future holds for Sorg Innkallelse.

Sorg Innkallelse:
We are just trying to do our best and to be better day and day but who knows what will happen in the future?! As a last words we have to say thank you for your attention and support and wish you all the best.
